Priority Club vs. Ambassador

What’s the difference between the Priority Club loyalty club and the Ambassador program?

So much confusion, so here are few pointers:

Priority Club Status and hence benefits applies to:*

  • Crowne Plaza Hotels
  • Hotel Indigo
  • Holiday Inn Hotels
  • Holiday Inn Express Hotels (or Express by Holiday Inn)
  • Staybridge Suites
  • Candlewood Suites

Ambassador and Royal Ambassador status and hence benefits only apply to:

  • Intercontinental Hotels & Resorts

What about the Points?

  • Points earned in any hotel go towards your Priority Club status

How long does the Ambassador Status last?

  • One year from when you join – this does not synchronise with your Priority club year which always runs from January to December

* There have been reported instanstances where someĀ  Intercontinental Hotels have given upgrades to Platinum members without ambassador status – this is not a normal benefit and should be seen as a bonus!

Is it worth signing up for Ambassador status using points, when planning on staying at Intercontinental hotels ( using the points collected to date) , in order to get whatever perks there may be

So is there any advantage in upgrading to ambassador if a person never stays at an Intercontinental Hotel? I stay at Holiday Inn, Holiday Inn Express, Candlewood, and Staybridge all of the time but I never stay at Intercontinental.

There’s no point at all in Ambassador if you’re not going to stay at an Intercontinental.

It would have been beneficial to know of this particular requirement when I joined Ambassador Status some years ago; I thought from the readings and details that it provided the upgrade, late check-out, etc. for any IHG properties, not just the specific Intercontinental properties. I have wondered why some of the properties never heard of Ambassador status but referred to me as a Platinum member. I feel deceived.
